FOOD COURT

MIT FC
MIT FC
For the people who want to know about MIT’s food court, here it goes !
This is something you can show your Mother for her contentment…So that she needn’t worry about her child’s enriching nourishment. Yes,this post is dedicated to your Mom :)
The primary aspects are all fulfilled:
1. AN ARCHITECTURAL MARVEL: It’s in the shape of a closed paper-bound book, to convey a message to the vibrant student community that: “We in Manipal are not nerds!”
2. VERY HYGENIC: All the plates, glasses, cups, spoons are washed well.
3. SAFE DRINKING WATER: And a point to note here; They basically provide cold water. If you want lukewarm/ hot water, it IS available
4. A SHELF: To keep your umbrellas UNsafe and UNsound ! Yea, believe me. Someone would take your umbrella and then you would flick someone else’s….and it goes on.. It just becomes a VICIOUS CYCLE.
5. FOOD: *Ah, how can I forget that :D *. There are only 7 chefs. Can’t believe it ah? Well, the food here is made with MACHINES that cost crores, imported all the way from Germany! Even the Rotis’ are machine made. Hardly a few hand-made items out here. You’ll get the food right on time. Now, the food made here is wholesome. And the taste is ___________________ “Left for you to fill :P ”
Secondary aspects:
1. THE FOCAL POINT: It is social hub where you get to meet all your friends. Located in Kamath Circle (called KC) it is a place for club meetings, publicity, gatherings, etc. Jam sessions and fashion shows
(: O’)
are held once in a while !
2. PROCESS: You will be given a combo card, which upon flashing will give you the bill ! Just hand it over to the staff, and they’ll give you a humongous plate !

* Basically, the Menu card for that particular meal is put up on the notice board !
Food on Credit:
The combo card that was mentioned earlier is used for this purpose. The money has to be paid at the end of the semester.
BEWARE: It could lighten your wallet to an implausible extent.
The counter is on the first floor and all kinds of food are available here: Pizzas, Pasta, Noodles, Butter Naan with Daal Makhni, etc(pretty high rates). Besides there are snacks, yummy cakes, juices, ice creams, etc (At a very nominal rate ! ) It is controlled by the Food court management. So, there are many people who gobble here at a regular basis..Generally people have food here when that particular meal has a boring menu. Contact them for further details :P
That’s it about the credit food.
And I would not like to comment much on the food ! Its an escapism strategy ( I am not a foodie in the name of probability) and an attempt to rule out stereotypes and misconceptions !
Any ways you people don’t have many options :P :P
A great man once said “ Taste lies in the tongue of the beholder ! “ :)
Taste it for yourself and you’ll know :)
Signing off..
A not so foodie :)

Places to enjoy in manipal

Honestly I have not known many(except my college mates , off course) , who know much about Manipal , this place because indeed it’s an isolated area where out of the 10 people you see, probably 7 are students of the various institutions of Manipal University (more like the Harvard of India)=p.
It was an initial August day when I first arrived here, and the first reaction was like what a place. For a person living in a metropolitan like Delhi for nothing but 17 years of their life , the change was going to be difficult. Plus the monsoon, killer rains. Its shining bright and suddenly it starts to pour HEAVY and while you think of settling underneath some shelter its gone, and there’s sun again. =D And the humid March heat, it can almost get to your nerves. Overall except a few bad months the climate is pleasant (especially at night) and for rain lovers it’s a delight.
Manipal is a small town(doesn’t give me a tough time writing about it).=P
As you enter Manipal , coming from Udupi you see a line of small almost shop sized showrooms of brands like Adidas, Benetton, Fast Track , Nike. (Yes this is the first and last time you will see branded stuff in Manipal). As you go up comes the road to Domino’s ,while there’s nothing really to tell you about it there indeed is. In Manipal, we don’t have  Mc Donalds or Kfc or Pizza Hut so if its your birthday and you are kind enough to splurge this is the place to treat , henceforth its always full .=P Having said that food at Manipal is definitely NOT a disappointment. We may not have the best Chinese , Italian or north Indian food, but we can always surprise you and the best part is the fact that it is never a burden on your purse. Some of our very own eating places are China ValleyBasilTasty Bites, Snack shack(speciality: potato lovers), Planet Café , Café 7 bees (best known for it’s yummy burgers), Saiba . (it is never difficult to find these or infact any place in Manipal, because the auto walla’s just always know everything and anything you name).
Coming back to the road, we go ahead to the heart of Manipal, Tiger Circle better known as TC is basically where 4 roads from different parts of the town meet, this place is never out of life.Be it awesome juice parlours, travel agents , Manipal’s biggest grocery, you get it all. Move forward through the line of shops, local dhabas on one side and THE Kasturba Medical College and Hospital on the other side, till you reach the turn to Manipal Insititute of Technology (MIT), or move forward to reach End point . Yes this is the place where you can have an enriching, panoramic view of the Suarna river and lush green landscape overlooking the Arabian Sea. The trek to the river downhill is one of its kind as it adds the perfect element of adventure =D.
So going to the other side of our campus, the lake side, Yes Manipal derives its name from this lake also called as Manupala Lake. In peak season it is a great place to go in the evening/early morning, sit by the side and enjoy the beauty of nature .Scenically this is the best place in Manipal. And nearby is the Venugopal temple where the both localites go for their prayers. (Yes this is the most IN place around the time of end sems=P).
Being a coastal area, it would be unfair on my part to not talk about the beautiful beaches near Manipal. Malpe and Kaup are the two most nearby beaches. Unlike other commercial beaches of Mumbai and Goa, these beaches are not so adulterated in the sense of commercialisation. Malpebeing very popular amongst the locals for fishing and port, St. Mary’s Island is a tourist destination having its own historical importance. While Kaupe is a more “dangerous “ beach and has a lighthouse perfectly located and a photographer’s delight. For those looking for some fun we have places like the railway bridge which is basically a bridge with a twist, Yes you can climb down below the bridge, while the train passes over it (:
Now about the life of people at Manipal , despite being far away from being a major city we manage to have our share of fun . Yes there is no dearth of pubs, bars, discos and restaurants in Manipal. A place to mention here is Deetee( patronised by the students). After every exam or generally on Saturdays you will see this place crowded, with people getting high on the heavy music if nothing else :P. Besides you have Blue waters , edge , enigma, Cox and Mox and many more.
This may not be the best place to live , but definitely an awesome place to visit .

Books and all other stuff

Hiya freshies! I know what must be going on at this point of time in your minds as you enter from school to college, from the phase where you we’re being spoon-fed to a new beginning where all depends on how Ill you can grasp. Ill, for those who have already joined, MIT is one of the best decisions you will have ever taken as this is the place where you can do anything to everything.
Before coming here, I assume you’ll be too excited to know about the place, what to do here, where to stay etc. One query which is making rounds in most of the social networking websites--What textbooks to refer and how about buying then before-hand?
You will get a lot of information regarding engineering textbooks over the internet, but each college has its own syllabus and specific textbook for each course. Lecturers will also want you to refer to several reference books available in the library but please don’t make a blunder by purchasing them. I have compiled this list of textbooks so as to help you out to make the right choice even before joining college.
The below mentioned books have been referred by almost all your seniors including us and has been tested saviours in the respective subjects.

In addition, you're gonna be needing the following stuff:

  •  Table lamp
  •  First aid box (especially anti-fungal and insect bite ointments)
  • A strong umbrella. Get two if possible. (This place defines the phrase “raining like cats and dogs”. The strong winds tend to wreck weak and multi-folding umbrellas)
  • Lot of clothes, because most of them get wet by the rains or the sweat.
  • 2-3 bed sheets.
  • A set of utensils.
  • A light jacket and a thin blanket( gets a little chilly sometimes during heavy rains).
  • Infinite passport size photographs. (Minimum 30. Trust us, you’ll need it)
  • An electric kettle (Midnight coffee, Maggi and for when you catch a cold. Good ones aren’t available here in Manipal hence we recommend you get one from home. You have to pay extra to use it, but no one really comes and checks.).
  • A spare cell phone (your regular one will most probably get misplaced or damaged!).
  • A good LOUD alarm clock. Trust me, cell phones do no good!
  • A nice pair of earphones or headphones. Also get a spare.
  • A strong, waterproof wallet (so that you don’t walk around dropping money and important cards)
  • A folder with all your important documents.
  • A pair of ethnic wear (for festivals and similar occasions)
  • A scientific calculator (Preferably Casio-fx 991MS).
  • A set of formal wear.
  • Strong locks for cupboards and room.
  • Curtains(Not required if you’ve applied for 15th or 16th block, but all other blocks require the students to bring their own curtains).
  • Insect spray (Manipal is like a biological hotspot for insects, so you will definitely need it).
  • We recommend you to buy Accessories for your rooms like dustbins, door mats, pillows, laundry bags from Manipal itself.
  • Apart from personal toiletries do bring or buy a toothbrush/shaving stuff holder.
  • A rope to be hung inside the rooms for drying clothes (especially undergarments) and hangers.
Also, here is a list of items that you might wanna get, but they are not essential.
  • A pen drive or a portable hard disk if possible (Can also be brought in the teaching break, after you get your laptops).
  • A pair of sport shoes and non-marking shoes (if you intend to go to Marena though There is a sports shop available just outside the campus.)
  • A multipurpose bag(Although you may not need it. The Laptop bags provided by the institution are more than sufficient).
  • A multi socket hub(As there is a dearth of plug points in the hostels).
  • A digital camera, to capture all the beautiful memories of your first year, because that is when you’re new to the place.
  • All important medication, though there are quite a few available at Tiger Circle
  • A guitar or any other musical instrument (for recreation).
  • Your favourite sports’ equipment (As there are facilities for almost all sports here).
  • A mouse for multiplayer LAN gaming which is very prevalent in the boy’s hostel.
For all your basic needs, we have stores within the campus (campus store and Manipal store) at convenient locations and it caters to all requirements. You’ll be surprised by the unexpected commodities available here. For further goods, there are many stores around campus at proximal locations.
Well that’s about it. Welcome to Manipal University!
